Hot Topic FAQ's:Q: Can my player play baseball with Venice Little League?A: Players aged 4-7 years old, and their older siblings may join VLL regardless of their home or school address. Players 8 and older, who live OR attend school in our boundaries are eligible to play VLL. Please use Find My League to determine that your home OR school are within our boundaries.
Q: What age players are eligible to play?
A: Venice Little League has Baseball programs for players ages 4 through 16. A player is determined by Little Leagues Age Chart. Please note that some players league age may be different from their actual age. Check the Age Chart to determine your players league age before registering.
Q: Can my player be on a team with his/her friend?A: After evaluations (Spring season only), we divide the players up based on skill level for T ball and Rookies and the draft occurs for Minors and Majors. In the Fall season, we do take requests, but we do not guarantee they will be honored as they are based on a first come first serve basis limiting the request per manager around 5, this is to ensure the teams are equal in skill level.
Q: How long is the baseball season?A: The Spring season runs from the end of January to early May, typically opening the second weekend of February and ending before May 15th. The Fall season runs from the middle of August through the middle of November.
Q: When are practices? How long are practices?A: All practices are determined by the individual team coaches. Practices are typically held on weekday evenings. Exact practice times will not be available until just before the season starts following team formation and based on permit availability, which the league obtains from Sarasota County.
Q: If my player drops from the league, do I get a refund?A: Players who drop prior to teams being formed will be refunded their full registration fees, minus the site processing fee. Players who drop after uniforms have been ordered and the start of games will be refunded registration fees minus uniform costs and the site processing fees. Players who drop after games start will not be refunded.
Q: Who will coach my player’s team?A: During the registration process, coach applications will be accepted by VLL. Each applicant for a coach’s position must pass a background check and then be accepted by the Venice Little League Board. Many coaches are parents of players; all coaches are volunteers.
Q: What division will my child play in?
A: Player placement is determined by several factors including age, skill level and experience, and the draft system (for divisions Minors & Majors). The Player Agent will oversee all placements. T-Ball Ages 4-5 (first and/or second year players)Rookie Ages 5-7 (typically second and third year players)Minor Ages 7-11 – requires skill evaluation Major Ages 9-12– requires skill evaluation50/70 Ages 11-13 – requires skill evaluation Jrs. Q: Is Financial Assistance Available?A: Yes! VLL believes that all kids who want to play should get to play, regardless of their families financial status. We offer partial and full registration scholarships as well as help providing new and gently used equipment. Get your Financial Aid Application here. Our scholarships are funded entirely by community donations, so we ask that each family only take what they need and pay it forward by donating back to the League and/or volunteering when they can. Consider this...
1) Be sure your player is at practice and games ON TIME. Baseball is a team sport, and the team depends on everybody to be working together within the scheduled times
.2) If you're dropping your player off for practice or a game, please be sure to pick up your player ON TIME.
3) Let the coaches do the coaching.
4) Be supportive at games.
5) Offer to help. Help set up the fields, help with the equipment, help keep score, help clean up the field. The coaches put in countless hours and rely on parents to help when they can.
